New Delhi: An individual becomes an IAS officer after clearing the UPSC exam and the interview. But despite this, there are very few people who reach the post of secretary. Recently, a senior IAS officer, Arunish Chawla, was appointed Secretary in the Revenue Department. He is a 1992 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre. Prior to this, he was working as Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
IAS Arunish Chawla was born in Haryana. He completed his primary education in a small village in Haryana. After this, he took his educational journey to the international level. He holds an M.Sc. degree in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE). His educational qualification has given a strong foundation to his administrative and economic skills.
According to media reports, IAS officer Arunish Chawla was successful in passing the UPSC Civil Services Examination at the age of just 23. His first posting was as Assistant Collector in Palamu (Jharkhand) in the year 1993. After this, he has served in many important positions in the Bihar cadre and the central government. Later, he served as District Magistrate in Kaimur, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, and Palamu.
Apart from this, Arunish Chawla has worked at the the Embassy of India, Washington D.C as Minister (Economic) from 2016 to 2019. He later served as Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 2020 to 2022. He has taken charge as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Development and Planning Department in Bihar. Apart from this, he has also held the post of Managing Director of Metro Rail Project (June-August 2023).
