2 coaches of Mysore-Darbhanga Bagmati Express catch fire after collision with freight train, 10 injured

Many passengers are reported to be injured while fire and smoke were reported in two coaches.

New Delhi: Two coaches of the Mysore-Thirubanga passenger train caught fire after it collided with a freight train on the evening of Friday, 11 October 2024.

Some reports suggest that at least three coaches have derailed.

The accident took place when the 12578 Mysore-Darbhanga Express collided with a goods train at 8:50 PM near Kavarappettai near Chennai.

According to the information, the express train collided with the already standing train on the same track. The impact caused more damage to the goods train

At least 10 passengers are reported to be injured while fire and smoke were reported in two coaches.

Officials said that national disaster response force (NDRF) and state disaster response force (SDRF) teams and ambulances have been rushed to the spot.

The train was going on the main line, at a speed of 109/kmph when it suddenly shifted on the loop line and collided with an already standing goods train. The district administration and NDRF team are present on the spot.

Relief and rescue teams from Chennai have left for the accident site while DRM is on the way.

“A passenger train from Mysore to Darbhanga via Perambur collided with a goods train standing at Kavarappettai railway station near Thiruvallur. Railway officials have rushed to the spot of the accident,” said Tiruvallur Police.
