Amid escalating air pollution in Delhi-NCR, Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been activated. This step was taken after the Air Quality Index (AQI) slipped into the ‘Severe’ category. GRAP-IV mandates stringent measures, including a total ban on construction and demolition activities, restrictions on polluting industrial operations, and tighter controls on diesel vehicle movement.

Delhi’s air quality has deteriorated to hazardous levels. On Monday night, the city’s average AQI stood at 399 at 9 PM and surpassed the 400 mark by 10 PM. The sharp increase in pollution levels is linked to unfavorable weather conditions and stagnant wind patterns. Consequently, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) sub-committee held an emergency meeting and promptly implemented Stage IV (‘Severe+’) of GRAP across the NCR region.
