Modus Operandi Of The Scam

According to media reports, Kshirsagar, a contractual employee earning Rs 13,000 per month, meticulously planned the fraud. He reportedly used an old letterhead from the sports complex to send a forged email to the bank, requesting a change in the email address associated with the department’s account. The new email address he created was nearly identical to the original, differing by only one letter.

Once the change was made, Kshirsagar gained access to critical banking details, including OTPs. This allowed him to enable internet banking and transfer Rs 21.6 crore into 13 different bank accounts between July 1 and December 7, 2023. By using forged documents, he managed to carry out the transactions undetected for months.

Extravagant Purchases

The investigation revealed that Kshirsagar spent the stolen money on an opulent lifestyle that stunned authorities. Among his purchases were a ₹1.2 crore BMW car, an SUV worth ₹1.3 crore, BMW bike priced at ₹32 lakh, a luxurious 4 BHK flat near the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar airport for his girlfriend, diamond-studded glasses.

Arrests and Further Investigation

The police have detained two of Kshirsagar’s colleagues, Yashoda Shetty and her husband, BK Jeevan, for allegedly assisting in the scheme. Jeevan is accused of using some of the stolen funds to buy a high-end SUV worth Rs 35 lakh, which is currently unaccounted for.

Authorities believe the couple helped fabricate documents that allowed Kshirsagar to transfer funds into their personal accounts. The police have seized several luxury vehicles purchased with the stolen money and are scrutinizing bank documents linked to the fraudulent transactions.

The police are also working to determine whether more individuals were involved in the operation and to recover all assets purchased with the embezzled funds.

Mumbai Gateway Of India Boat Accident

On Wednesday around 4:30 PM, the “Neelkamal” ferry carrying over 100 passengers set off from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves. Tragically, it collided with a speeding Indian Navy patrol boat, which reportedly lost control. The collision caused the ferry to overturn, leading to a devastating accident in the Arabian Sea.

While 13 people, including two Navy personnel aboard the patrol boat, lost their lives, 99 passengers were rescued, though some remain unaccounted for. Rescue operations continued late into the night, with search teams scouring the waters for any sign of missing passengers.

How ‘Vada Pav’ Craving Saved Family?

The Tripathi family, visiting Mumbai from Gorakhpur, had planned to take the Neelkamal ferry to Elephanta Caves. However, moments before boarding, their children demanded vada pav. The family decided to stay back and buy the iconic Mumbai snack. This unforeseen delay kept them off the ferry, which later on sank, ultimately saving their lives.

Anjali Tripathi, a member of the family, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We are alive today because of our children’s craving for vada pav.”

The Collision and Rescue

According to media reports, the Navy’s patrol boat initially took a wide turn before crashing head-on into the Neelkamal. The impact caused the ferry to capsize almost instantly. Of the 100+ passengers onboard, 99 were successfully rescued due to prompt action by nearby boats and rescue teams.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of life’s unpredictability and the small moments that can make a difference between tragedy and survival.

NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has got Finance and Planning and Excise departments.

Fadnavis and his two deputies took oath on December 5. The Maharashtra cabinet was expanded on December 15 with 39 leaders taking oath as ministers.

The cabinet ministers from the BJP include Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Chandrakant Patil, Girish Mahajan, Ganesh Naik, Mangalprabhat Lodha, Jaykumar Rawat, Pankaja Munde, Atul Save, Ashok Uike, Ashish Shelar, Shivendra Raje Bhosale, Jaikumar Gore, Sanjay Savkare, Nitesh Rane, and Akash Pundkar.

Shiv Sena leaders who took the oath on December 15 include Gulab Patil, Dada Bhuse, Sanjay Rathod, Uday Samant, Shambhuraje Desai, Sanjay Shirsath, Pratap Sarnaik, Bharatshet Gogavale, and Prakash Abitkar.

NCP leaders in the state cabinet are Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde, Datta Bharane, Aditi Tatkare, Manikrao Kokate, Narhari Jhirwal, Mankarand Jadhav Patil, and Babasaheb Patil.

The six state ministers sworn in include BJP’s Madhuri Misal, Pankaj Bhoar, and Meghna Bordikar, Shiv Sena’s Ashish Jaiswal and Yogesh Kadam, and NCP’s Indranil Naik.

Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 witnessed a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance, securing a landslide win with 235 seats. The results marked a significant milestone for the BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party with 132 seats.

The Shiv Sena and NCP also made notable gains, with 57 and 41 seats, respectively.

Mahayuti alliance consisted of BJP, Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party led by Ajit Pawar.

What Happened In Kalyan?

The incident took place in Ajmera Heights, a high-profile society in Kalyan. Akhilesh Shukla, an Accounts Manager with MTDC (Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation), allegedly summoned goons to attack Abhijit Deshmukh, a Marathi resident, and his family. Three individuals were injured in the assault, with Abhijit Deshmukh being seriously hurt and currently undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital.

The trouble reportedly began over a minor dispute. Shukla and his neighbor, Varsha Kalvikatte, reside in the same society. Shukla’s wife, Geeta, often performs religious rituals outside their home, including lighting incense sticks. The smoke from these rituals apparently drifted into Kalvikatte’s house, causing discomfort to her elderly mother and three-year-old child. When Varsha Kalvikatte raised the issue, Geeta reportedly reacted aggressively.

Abhijit Deshmukh and his brother Dheeraj tried to mediate and resolve the dispute peacefully. However, this mediation seemingly angered Shukla, who then allegedly called 10–15 goons and attacked the Deshmukh brothers with iron rods.

Why Did Police Say?

According to media reports, the Kalyan police confirmed the incident and stated that an FIR has been registered based on complaints from both sides. Senior Inspector Amarnath Waghmode shared that an investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events.

The Deshmukh brothers were severely injured, and Abhijit Deshmukh remains hospitalized. Residents of the society have accused Akhilesh Shukla of being a habitual troublemaker. Multiple complaints against him for targeting Marathi families have surfaced.

The police are investigating the roles of Shukla and the hired attackers, while the condition of the injured is being closely monitored. This incident has sparked outrage, with calls for strict action against those responsible for such discriminatory and violent behavior.

Family’s Terrifying Experience

Vaishali Adkane, a resident of Kurla in Mumbai, was aboard the boat with her 14-month-old son and family. Recounting the horrifying incident, Vaishali said, “We were a group of eight heading to Elephanta Caves for a holiday. About 40 to 50 minutes into our journey, a white speedboat came rushing towards us at high speed and collided with our boat. The impact threw many of us off our seats. One person from the speedboat was flung onto our boat and seemed almost lifeless, while another appeared to have succumbed shortly after.”

Initially, the passengers thought they were unharmed, but soon noticed a hole in their boat caused by the collision. The boat operator quickly instructed everyone to wear life jackets, which Vaishali’s brother distributed among their group. Despite the precautions, the boat began tilting and eventually started sinking.

“I was desperate to save my 14-month-old son, Sharvil,” Vaishali recounted. “My brother initially held him above water with one hand and later placed him on his shoulder while clinging to the boat for support. We floated like this for nearly half an hour, clinging to the hope of survival. Many who lost their life jackets or were swept away by the current drowned immediately.”

Life-Saving Rescue Efforts

After approximately 30 minutes, rescue boats arrived and pulled survivors from the water. “If help had come even five to ten minutes later, we might not have survived,” Vaishali added.

Vaishali also highlighted the bravery of a foreign couple who selflessly saved multiple lives during the disaster. “When the boat started sinking after the speedboat collision, this couple risked their own lives to save seven to eight passengers, helping them board the rescue boats,” she said.

The collision occurred due to an engine malfunction on the Indian Navy craft, which lost control while conducting engine trials in Mumbai Harbour. The out-of-control Navy vessel struck the passenger ferry, Neelkamal, causing it to capsize. The incident occurred in evening around 6.30 pm where a speedboat rammed in the ferry near Uran, Karanja, according to a viral video.

Footage captured moments before the accident shows the Navy craft carrying 6-7 passengers, moving through the water. The video, recorded seconds prior to the crash, reveals the speedboat moving erratically in a zig-zag pattern. The boat initially veered left, then sharply to the right, before taking a hard left turn and heading straight toward the passenger ferry. Despite the driver’s attempts to regain control, the speedboat struck the ferry, leading to the tragic accident.

More visuals from the scene reveal passengers wearing life jackets being rescued and transferred to another boat as the ferry began to tilt dangerously toward the water.

Massive rescue operation

The Navy official confirmed that 13 people died and 99 survivors has been rescued. In the boat there were approximately 110 passengers including 20 children.8 crafts of the Indian Navy have been pressed into search operations in the area where the ferry accident took place.. the Navy official told ANI.

The Navy and Coast Guard have launched a massive rescue operation, with 11 Navy boats and three boats of Marine Police, and a boat of Coast Guard being deployed in the area. Four helicopters are also involved in the search and rescue operation.

Responding to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the administration is in constant touch with the authorities and all necessary machinery for the rescue operation are being deployed.

The protesting job aspirants alleged fraud in the recruitment examination and demanded a fair inquiry.

What is Normalisation?

Normalisation is a process for ensuring students are neither advantaged nor disadvantaged by the difficulty of papers they write. The process involves revising the score of a student in a way that it becomes comparable with the score of another. This becomes necessary when an examination of the same subject is held in multiple sessions, each with a different paper.

On Monday, December 17, some protesting job seekers congregated in front of the district collector’s office and handed over a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to an officer.

The memorandum said that in the joint recruitment examination 2023 (Van and Jail Recruitment Test 2023) of forest and jail departments, a candidate scored 101.66 marks out of total 100 and topped the selection list.

The result of the examination, conducted by the Bhopal-headquartered Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board, was declared on December 13.

After the announcement of the result, the board clarified the “process of normalisation” has been adopted in the recruitment examination as per rules, because of which candidates can get more than full marks (100) and less than zero.

Last Call From Her Mobile

After completing her first day at work, Afreen reached Kurla station but didn’t get any auto to take her home. She called her father, asking if a family member could pick her up. However, no one was free to pick her up at that moment, and her father suggested she walk home. Shortly after, tragedy struck which took her life.

According to a report by Midday, her family member said someone found her phone at the accident spot and dialled the last number, which was her father’s. They immediately rushed to the hospital. After reaching there, we learned that she had passed away.

Kurla Bus Accident Mishap

Afreen wasn’t the only victim of this horrifying accident. The bus claimed the lives of several others, leaving behind grieving families. Shivam, an 18-year-old college student, had stepped out of his father’s shop for a quick snack when the bus struck him fatally. Vijay Gaikwad, 70, a retired railway employee, was out to get photocopies of documents when he lost his life. 

Anam Muzzafar Shaikh, a 20-year-old aspiring baker, was riding pillion on her father’s two-wheeler when the bus hit them. Anam lost her life, while her father is critically injured and fighting for survival in a private hospital. Islam Ansari, 49, a driver and father of four, and Farooq Chaudhary, 56, were also killed in the crash.

The tragic accident has left the people from Kurla in shock. Afreen’s family, like the others affected, is struggling to come to terms with the loss. 

The CCTV footage of the BEST bus that mowed down seven persons in Mumbai’s Kurla area shows driver Sanjay More collecting two backpacks from the cabin and jumping out of a broken window after the accident.

Four to five video clips with a duration of 50 seconds to over 1 minute went viral on social media on Wednesday.

Bomb threat in Delhi schools

According to the news reports, around 40 schools in Delhi have received bomb threats via e-mail on Monday, including GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar, DPS RK Puram, British School along with other schools. The sender of the mail demanded 30,000 dollars, warning that the bomb would be detonate if the money was not given on time. The News 18 reported that the IP address of the sender was traced to Utica in New York. A proxy server was used to send the threat mail.

Power Sharing Formula of the Mahayuti

According to the agreement on the division of power, Devendra Fadnavis is ready to step into the Chief Minister’s role, with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar poised as Deputy Chief Ministers. The swearing-in ceremony is marked for December 5 at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, as stated by BJP’s representatives. It’s anticipated that the BJP will secure the Home and Revenue departments, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) might handle the Finance department as well as the Deputy Speaker role in the assembly. The Urban Development department seems to be likely allotted to Eknath Shinde’s group from the Shiv Sena. Furthermore, the Shiv Sena is said to be looking forward to filling the Deputy Chairman’s seat in the Legislative Council, given that they have already been confirmed for the Chairman position.

NCP May Get A Cabinet Minister Post

The Modi administration is likely to see a new member from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), possibly Praful Patel, serving as a Cabinet Minister. Earlier, the NCP had turned down the Minister of State position. However, they now seem to have more bargaining power and are expected to leverage it to get the BJP to accede to their requirements.

Ajit Pawar, a top figure from NCP, visited Delhi recently for a meeting with senior BJP leaders. As per India Today’s reports, BJP is set to get around 21-22 ministerial berths. Meanwhile, NCP, under Ajit Pawar’s leadership, is hoping for 9-10 cabinet positions. The Shiv Sena, which was initially eyeing 16 portfolios, now seems ready to settle for 12.

Congress Raised Questions on Unnecessary Delay

A good while after the election verdict was announced, it was around day ten when Maharashtra Congress’ General Secretary, Sachin Sawant, vented his criticism. His aim? The leaders of the Mahayuti union, according to him, were running high on “power fever.” Sawant highlighted the seemingly endless hold-up in setting up Maharashtra’s new administration. He raised a question, “Why is it taking so long? The Cabinet was expected to be up and running by November 26, yet here we are.” Sawant believes that the union is putting their political aspirations first, overlooking the needs of the people they’re supposed to serve.

Eknath Shinde is suffering from fever and a throat infection.

Shinde had left for his native village in Satara district amid reports that he was upset after the Mahayuti leaders’ meeting in Delhi on Thursday, November 28.

It is reported that a crucial meeting of the Mahayuti allies, BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, had to be cancelled thus causing a delay in the formation of the state government.

Shinde’s family doctor RM Patre, who is treating the Shiv Sena leader in his native village in Satara district, told ANI that he (Eknath Shinde) had been suffering from fever and a throat infection for the past two days. However, he added that he is recovering.

“We have administered antibiotics. A team of three to four doctors is attending to him,” Patre added.

Civil Surgeon for Satara Dr Yuvraj Karpe said that Shinde is affected by a respiratory tract infection due to which he has fever, itchy throat, along with weakness.

“His pulse rate and blood pressure are normal. Blood samples were checked and don’t show any symptoms of dengue or malaria. He was given an injectable dose on Saturday evening for bacterial infection,” reported TOI quoting Karpe.

Parag Shah defeated Rakhi Jadhav, from the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction by a margin of 34,999 votes. Shah received 85,388 votes, while Jadhav secured 50,389 votes. The victor marks Shah’s second consecutive win from the Ghatkopar East constituency.

During the 2019 Assembly elections, Shah declared assets worth Rs 550.62 crore.

Who Is Parag Shah?

Parag Shah is a famous real estate tycoon. He is the chairman of MICI Group for over 25 years. The 55-year-old businessman entered politics in 2017, becoming a municipal corporator from Ghatkopar East on a BJP ticket. In 2019, Shah fought his first Assembly election, which was won by a landslide victory with over 53,000 votes.

It’s worth noting that Shah’s name surprisingly didn’t appear in BJP’s initial candidate list for Maharashtra’s 2024 Assembly elections, sparking curiosity about his prospects. Furthermore, rumours are swirling as Maharashtra BJP bigwigs like Bharti Lavhekar of Versova and Sunil Rane from Borivli have been caught up in hushed talks with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, kindling rumours about potential successors.

This win further cements Parag Shah’s position as a key figure in Maharashtra’s political and real estate landscape.

The Mahim Assembly, part of the Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha constituency, has historically been a Shiv Sena stronghold.

In the 2019 elections, Sada Sarvankar of Shiv Sena retained the seat with 61,337 votes, defeating Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s Sandeep Deshpande, who received 42,690 votes. This year’s results reflect a competitive contest and changing dynamics within Maharashtra’s political landscape.

Azmi, who also serves as the Maharashtra SP president and is the father-in-law of actor Ayesha Takia, faced a heated battle in this election. The contest was particularly significant for both the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and SP, as the seat was a focal point of political strategy and controversy.

Nawab Malik, representing the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction, faced hurdles even before the election. His candidacy drew criticism due to alleged links with underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim. Despite opposition from BJP within the Mahayuti alliance, Ajit Pawar stood firm, shifting Malik from his traditional Anushakti Nagar seat to contest in Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar.

Amit Vilasrao Deshmukh from the INC was the winning candidate from the Maharashtra Latur-city in the Assembly elections 2019, securing 111156 votes while 70741 votes were polled in favour of Shailesh Govindkumar Lahoti from the BJP.

Key contenders for this seat include Avinash Anandrao Brahmankar (BJP), Bhojraj Ramdas Gabhane (IND), Rohan Haridas Sonpimple (IND), Shrikant Karu Barsagade (IND), Dr. Somadatta Brahmanand Karanjekar (IND), Nanabhau Falgunrao Patole (CONG), Roshan Baburao Fule (BSP), Diksha Moreshwar Bodele (BARESP), Govindrao Krushnaji Brahmankar (LOKSP), Naresh Balkrushna Gajbhiye (PPI(D)), Dr. Avinash Raghunath Nanhe (VANBB), Ashok Sadashiv Patle (IND), Chhaganlal Narayanji Ramteke (IND).

In addition to the Assembly election results, the Election Commission of India (ECI) will also announce the outcomes of by-elections for 41 Assembly constituencies across 14 states. In the Mahayuti alliance, the BJP contested 149 assembly seats, Shiv Sena 81 seats, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP fielded candidates in 59 constituencies. In the opposition’s MVA combine, the Congress fielded 101 candidates, Shiv Sena (UBT) 95, and the NCP (SP) put up 86 candidates. Parties such as the Bahujan Samaj Party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), also contested, with BSP fielding 237 candidates and AIMIM putting up 17 candidates, reported news agency PTI.

The majority mark in the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly is 145, the number any alliance or party needs to crack to be able to form government in the state. The term of the present state assembly ends on November 26. While most exit polls predict a victory for the Mahayuti alliance, three suggest that neither the Mahayuti nor the Maha Vikas Aghadi would secure a decisive majority to form the next government in Maharashtra.

Notably, BVA MLA Kshitij Thakur represents the Nalasopara constituency. BJP’s Rajan Naik and Congress’s Sandeep Pandey are contesting for the assembly seat. BVA President Hitendra Thakur questioned the presence of an ‘outsider’ politician in Virar after the conclusion of the assembly election campaign. In the 2019 elections, BVA supported the Mahayuti alliance with its three MLAs.

The BVA members stated that they received a tipoff about Tawde’s meeting at the Vivant Hotel in Manvelpada, which was also attended by Naik and other BJP leaders.

The workers alleged that they saw Tawde distributing cash to attendees.

As per Thakur, Tawde possessed Rs five crore and diaries containing names. The main gate of the hotel was closed during the meeting, claimed the BVA supporters.

The BVA expressed its concerns about webcasting at 507 polling booths in the Nalasopara assembly constituency. Notably, Thakur is locking horns with the BJP’s Sneha Dube in the Vasai seat.

According to BVA, Rs nine lakh was found in the hotel room. They requested a thorough search of all 30 rooms in the hotel

Thakur requested cops and election officials to take appropriate actions against the culprits who violated the election code.

In his first reaction after the cash controversy, the BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde said, “There are CCTV cameras in the hotel room. I simply came to meet party workers. ”

“The Election Commission officials videographed the room. For 40 years, I was in politics and never distributed money,” he added.

Opposition Demands Action

Congress candidates from Nalasopara and Vasai – Sandeep Pandey and Vijay Patil, have called for stringent action against Tawde.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut took to X and stated that BJP leaders are above election commission law.

“The BJP’s scheme has come to an end. Thakur has done what the Election Commission should have done. EC officials search our bags and scrutinise us, yet these individuals from the BJP face no such checks,” he wrote.

Tawde, a key figure in the BJP, is in the hot seat now, as the local law enforcement in Tuling, Nalasopara East, hasn’t taken lightly the allegations about his involvement in a cash-for-votes scandal. They’ve duly filed a First Information Report, indicating potential breaches of the Representation of People’s Act. In a surprising turn of events, election officers claim to have seized almost 9 lakh in hard cash and relevant paperwork from hotel premises.
