At the recent Reliance Family Day held in Jamnagar, Mukesh Ambani reflected on his family’s journey and the sacrifices made by his wife, Nita Ambani, to establish their business in Jamnagar. Praising her dedication, Mukesh shared how Nita regularly traveled to Jamnagar despite having young children Akash and Isha, who were four years old, and Anant, just one.
Mukesh recounted that during the early days of Jamnagar’s development, he and Nita would stay in a guest house for one to two days at a time. Despite the challenges, Nita remained committed and played a pivotal role in helping set up Reliance’s operations in Jamnagar.
Nita Ambani’s dedication extended beyond business as she instilled strong values in her children. In an interview with Hindustan Times, she spoke about the upbringing of their family, saying, “Both Mukesh and I grew up in a middle-class, joint family. There was a lot of love, compassion, warmth, and understanding, but we also had to give up a lot of things. Our children cannot grow far from the values that they grow up seeing. The kids saw us, Mukesh’s parents, and my parents, and they imbibed our values.”
Over time, Nita transitioned into the family business alongside Mukesh. Today, she serves as the Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation and Dhirubhai Ambani International School, the owner of the Mumbai Indians IPL team, and a non-executive director of Reliance Industries.
Isha Ambani has often credited her mother, Nita, for teaching her the art of balancing family and work. In an interview with Vogue, Isha shared her perspective on Nita’s influence and her progressive views on women in the workplace:
“As much as I want to believe that women can have it all, I know that my mom gave it all up to raise us. But once we grew up, I also saw her balance work and home perfectly. Watching her play all these different roles—from full-time mom to businesswoman—I learned how important each facet is in a woman’s life and how one needs to define what ‘having it all’ means during these different stages.”
