Anand Jain, Chairman of Jai Corp Limited, is a prominent figure in Indian business with nearly 30 years of expertise spanning real estate, finance, and capital markets. Known as the “third son” of Dhirubhai Ambani, Jain shares a lifelong friendship with Mukesh Ambani, the billionaire leader of Reliance Industries and one of India’s most influential business magnates.
Jain’s journey with the Ambani family began in the mid-1980s when he made a name for himself at Reliance Industries. He gained recognition for dismantling a bear cartel led by Manu Manek, who was also known as kingpin of the Bombay Stock Exchange. Over the years, Jain emerged as a trusted advisor and a vital force in the day-to-day operations of Reliance. Remarkably, sources within Reliance note that Jain has never taken a salary from the company, underscoring his commitment to the group’s vision.
Jain’s deep-rooted bond with Mukesh Ambani traces back to their school days at Hill Grange High School in Mumbai. His relationship with the Ambani family extends beyond business, as he was also a close confidant of Dhirubhai Ambani, the legendary founder of Reliance Industries.
Jain’s association with the Reliance Group spans over 25 years, during which he has played a pivotal role in shaping its growth. Notably, he served as Vice Chairman of Reliance Capital and was a board member of Indian Petrochemicals Ltd. His contributions have been instrumental in advancing key Reliance ventures, particularly in telecom and real estate.
In addition to his work with Reliance, Jain chairs Urban Infrastructure Venture Capital Limited, managing the Urban Infrastructure Venture Capital Fund. His real estate portfolio boasts investments across 33 projects in 14 cities through two funds. However, ambitious plans to develop special economic zones (SEZs) and a port in collaboration with Mukesh Ambani faced hurdles due to land acquisition issues.
In 2007, Jain was ranked 11th on Forbes India’s 40 Richest list. His son, Harsh Jain, is a successful entrepreneur, serving as the co-founder and CEO of Dream11, India’s leading fantasy sports platform.
Despite his wealth and success, Jain’s focus remains on business development and innovation. Forbes estimates his net worth at $525 million. Among his most ambitious ventures is leading a team to develop Mumbai’s first greenfield SEZ, a project aligned with India’s growth aspirations.
Anand Jain’s journey exemplifies dedication, trust, and vision. Leaving his own business in Delhi to join Reliance in 1981, shortly after Mukesh Ambani returned from Stanford University, Jain has remained a steadfast partner in the company’s ascent. His selfless contributions and unwavering loyalty to the Ambani family have earned him a place as one of the most trusted figures in India’s corporate landscape.
