Initially Planned with a Different Cast

According to a report by Hindustan Times, director Farah Khan planned to make Happy New Year right after the success of Main Hoon Na, released in 2004.

Farah initially thought of making the film which would feature Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Ameesha Patel, Priyanka Chopra, Raveena Tandon, and Zayed Khan. However, the project did not progress beyond the concept stage.

Reasons for the Delay

In 2006, Farah Khan signed Deepika Padukone for the film. However, the project faced another delay, this time because Deepika was working on Om Shanti Om. Consequently, Happy New Year remained in the pipeline for the next six years. During this period, Farah directed other films like Om Shanti Om and Tees Maar Khan.

Another factor contributing to the delay was a reported rift between Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan. However, the two reconciled in 2012, and the movie finally went on the floors for making.

Eight Stars Rejected the Film

Did you know that besides Deepika, Farah also considered Priyanka Chopra for the lead role? However, Priyanka had date conflicts and had to decline the offer.

Other actresses approached for the role included Sonakshi Sinha, Asin, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra, and Katrina Kaif, but none could come on board. For Sonu Sood’s role, Farah initially approached John Abraham and Prithviraj Sukumaran, but things didn’t work out with them either.

Despite the challenges, Happy New Year turned out to be a huge hit and became the third highest-grossing film of 2014.

According to a report by News18, the film was made on a budget of Rs 1 crore and earned Rs 6 crore at the box office. Starring Rekha, Kabir Bedi, and Shatrughan Sinha, the film emerged as the fifth-highest-grossing movie of 1988.

Did you know how Kabir Bedi landed the role in Rakesh Roshan’s film? In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he accepted the role without even hearing the script, motivated by one particular reason.

Talking about the film on Digital Commentary, Kabir said, “The role was good, and I wanted it to be very scary and dangerous, and I succeeded in achieving that. I was in America for a series with Tom Selleck, shooting in Hawaii. After the day’s shoot, I returned to the hotel and was looking out at the sea when I got a call from Rakesh Roshan.”

He continued, “Rakesh said, ‘I am making a film and want you as the hero.’ I responded, ‘That’s great, but is there a strike in Bollywood for actors that you’re calling me in Hawaii?’”

He added, “Rakesh then explained that the hero in the film transitions into a villain. If he cast a traditional hero, they wouldn’t agree to the role, and casting a typical villain would ruin the element of surprise. He said, ‘Only you can pull off both a hero and a villain.’ It was true because I had successfully portrayed both types of roles in my career.”

Kabir Bedi revealed that as soon as he enquired about the cast and found out that Rekha was part of the project, he immediately said yes.

On the personal front, Kabir Bedi has been married four times and is the father of three children: Pooja, Siddharth (deceased), and Adam. His first marriage was to Odissi dancer Protima Bedi, with whom he had Pooja and Siddharth, who tragically passed away at the age of 26.

Released in 2018, Zero starred SRK alongside Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, with Salman Khan making a cameo appearance. Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the movie was highly anticipated and expected to do well at the box office. However, it turned out to be a major disappointment.

Puru Rajkumar started his career with Karisma Kapoor in the 1996 film Bal Brahmachari. Despite being launched in a grand manner by directors and producers, Puru failed to connect with the audience, and the movie performed poorly at the box office.

Puru appeared in approximately 20 films during his acting career, including titles like Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Mission Kashmir, Vadh, Dosh, Veer, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Jago, and Umrao Jaan. In 2000, Puru Rajkumar was offered a role in the blockbuster Dhadkan. He was approached to play Sunil Shetty’s character in the film. However, Puru declined the offer. In an interview, the film’s director, Dharmesh Darshan, revealed that he had offered the role to Puru, explaining that it had grey shades. Upon hearing this, Puru made up his mind immediately and decided to reject the role.

After facing multiple failures, Puru Rajkumar bid goodbye to the film industry. His last appearance was in the Ajay Devgan and Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Action Jackson.

After reaching the pinnacle of success, Bharat Bhushan’s popularity started to decline. The actor took his brother’s advice and entered into production, which resulted in massive monetary losses.

Reports suggest that Bharat Bhushan was among the wealthiest actors in Bollywood during the peak of his career. However, he eventually went bankrupt. His career declined with the rise of stars like Shashi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, and Dharmendra. Facing financial difficulties, Bhushan sold most of his property and moved to live in a chawl.

Later, to make ends meet, the actor even worked as a junior artist. A report by the Times of India claimed that Bharat Bhushan lost a significant amount of money and property in gambling. He later passed away at the age of 72 in an impoverished state.

In an exclusive interview with Local18, Pooja revealed that she is a student of Kathak, theater, and folk music at Khairagarh Music University. Her dream is to participate in the Miss India contest and bring glory to Chhattisgarh in the fashion industry. Pooja has already played the lead role in two Chhattisgarhi films, Aakhri Faisala and Nawa Bihaan. Her upcoming film, Deewana Tor Naam, is currently in production.

Did you know that Pooja designed her dress herself? Interestingly, she wore earrings made from rice grains, a silver necklace, and a chain crafted from paddy seeds. Adding more cultural touch to her attire, Pooja donned bracelets made of cowrie shells and a green gown that beautifully depicted Chhattisgarh’s heritage and pride.

Because of her unique dress design and innovative creativity, Pooja won first prize. On her big win, Pooja expressed her gratitude and thanked her designer, Priya, as well as her mother, Upasana Vaishnav, for their support.

Pooja’s father, Chhaganlal, said in the same interview, “Daughters are no less than sons. It is essential for families to support their dreams. I work as a shoe polisher, but I have always tried to fulfill my daughter’s every wish. Today, my daughter has not only brought pride to our family but also to our district and state.”

Meanwhile, Pooja expressed, “It is my dream to bring Chhattisgarh’s culture and art to the world through fashion. I will give my best effort for Miss India and hope that the state government and society will support me in this journey.”

An obituary that surfaced after Vimi’s death revealed that the actress had been facing domestic violence from her husband. After separating from her husband, Vimi’s life took another drastic turn. She fell in love with a small-time producer named Jolly. While the actress thought her love story would bloom into something beautiful, it turned out completely the opposite. She was exploited in that relationship.

Vimi’s Business That Flopped Too

Vimi ventured into a textile business in Calcutta, but it too failed and was sold off to settle her debts. Reports suggest that by her early 30s, the actress was completely bankrupt. To cope with her despair, she turned to alcohol, which severely impacted her health.

In 1977, at the age of 34, Vimi passed away due to liver complications. Tragically, she was alone at the time of her death, and her body was reportedly transported for cremation in a cart typically used by a grain seller.
