Interestingly, the role of Juhi Chawla was initially offered to Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai, and Sridevi. The legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra first offered the film to Sridevi, with whom he had previously worked in Chandni (1989) and Lamhe (1991). However, Sridevi reportedly wanted the entire script to be reworked so that her character would be the obsessive lover, which Chopra refused. The film was then offered to Madhuri Dixit, who declined the role for unknown reasons.

Darr also went on to win the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Sunny Deol called Darr a mistake

Sunny Deol once described working on Darr as a bad experience and even called it a mistake in his career. In an old interview with Filmfare, the actor shared his frustrations about the film and vowed never to work with the late Yash Chopra again. He recalled an incident in Switzerland when he was so angry that, in a moment of rage, he stuffed his hands into his pockets and ended up ripping his jeans. “If I could restart my career, I’d avoid a mistake called Darr. Making that film was the worst experience of my life. I was tired of the lies and manipulations,” Sunny said.

The actor was upset about the way his character, a commando officer, was shown losing in a fight scene. Speaking about the disagreement years later on Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny revealed, “I had a heated argument with Yash Chopra. I explained that my character is a trained commando and wouldn’t lose easily in a fight. If the antagonist could stab me when I wasn’t looking, that would make sense. But how could he defeat me while I was fully aware? That didn’t feel right.” Sunny admitted that during the argument, he became so frustrated that he unknowingly ripped his pants.

Sunny also shared that he didn’t speak to Shah Rukh Khan for 16 years after Darr, although it wasn’t intentional. “It’s not like I refused to talk to him; I’m not someone who socializes much, so we just never crossed paths to speak,” he explained.

Released in 2014, the storyline of Happy New Year was fresh, engaging, and entertaining, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. In addition to Shah Rukh Khan, the movie starred Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivaan Shah, and Jackie Shroff. Directed by Farah Khan and produced by SRK’s wife, Gauri Khan, the film became a superhit at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, it grossed an impressive Rs 397 crore worldwide.

Initially Planned with a Different Cast

Interestingly, Happy New Year was initially supposed to have a different star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan. The project took nine long years to finally hit the big screens. According to a report by Hindustan Times, director Farah Khan planned to make Happy New Year right after the success of Main Hoon Na, released in 2004.

Farah initially thought of making the film which would feature Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Ameesha Patel, Priyanka Chopra, Raveena Tandon, and Zayed Khan. However, the project did not progress beyond the concept stage.

Reasons for the Delay

In 2006, Farah Khan signed Deepika Padukone for the film. However, the project faced another delay, this time because Deepika was working on Om Shanti Om. Consequently, Happy New Year remained in the pipeline for the next six years. During this period, Farah directed other films like Om Shanti Om and Tees Maar Khan.

Another factor contributing to the delay was a reported rift between Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan. However, the two reconciled in 2012, and the movie finally went on the floors for making.

Eight Stars Rejected the Film

Did you know that besides Deepika, Farah also considered Priyanka Chopra for the lead role? However, Priyanka had date conflicts and had to decline the offer.

Other actresses approached for the role included Sonakshi Sinha, Asin, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra, and Katrina Kaif, but none could come on board. For Sonu Sood’s role, Farah initially approached John Abraham and Prithviraj Sukumaran, but things didn’t work out with them either.

Despite the challenges, Happy New Year turned out to be a huge hit and became the third highest-grossing film of 2014.

Khushbu reveals shocking details about starring with Raj Kapoor

During a conversation with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel Khushbu revealed, “Raj Kapoor wanted to launch me in Ram Teri Ganga Maili. We also did a photo shoot for the same. After looking at those photos, Raj Kapoor had said, ‘She is my Ganga.’ The plan was to finish the Gangotri schedule first, but it was snowing at the time, so they decided to shoot in Kolkata first, where they would show the brothel scene. In this segment of the film, the character is already a mother to a baby (sic).”

She further added, “But I was not even fully 14 years old at the time, so Raj ji said, ‘She is herself a kid, and a baby in her hand won’t look good.’ He couldn’t push the film either, and because of this, I couldn’t star in the film (sic).”

Talking about the film on Digital Commentary, Kabir said, “The role was good, and I wanted it to be very scary and dangerous, and I succeeded in achieving that. I was in America for a series with Tom Selleck, shooting in Hawaii. After the day’s shoot, I returned to the hotel and was looking out at the sea when I got a call from Rakesh Roshan.”

He continued, “Rakesh said, ‘I am making a film and want you as the hero.’ I responded, ‘That’s great, but is there a strike in Bollywood for actors that you’re calling me in Hawaii?’”

He added, “Rakesh then explained that the hero in the film transitions into a villain. If he cast a traditional hero, they wouldn’t agree to the role, and casting a typical villain would ruin the element of surprise. He said, ‘Only you can pull off both a hero and a villain.’ It was true because I had successfully portrayed both types of roles in my career.”

He said- Sanjay ji, I am not going to South Africa, you should take this in writing from me. Rest you can shoot wherever you want between Linking Road and Film City (sic).”

Brother, there is a screenplay, there is a structure, there are scenes. For the first time in the history of cinema… a film’s director, the hero of the film, the writers of the film (Anurag Kashyap and his brother Abhinav Kashyap) and Neeraj Vohra, all of us held a press conference outside Sanjay Dutt’s bungalow (sic).”

Director Sanjay Gupta pleaded with the audience not to watch his film since it was unfinished. The production house and the actors all stopped shooting for the film. Since the film was an action-thriller, the makers roped in the star-studded cast including, Jackie Shroff, Aditya Pancholi, Raveena Tandon, and Shilpa who played pivotal roles. The film is about an honest police officer, who saves his son’s life at any cost however, he later realises that a criminal behind the bar can save his son’s life.

Released in 2018, Zero starred SRK alongside Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, with Salman Khan making a cameo appearance. Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the movie was highly anticipated and expected to do well at the box office. However, it turned out to be a major disappointment.

Zero Plot

In Zero, Shah Rukh Khan portrayed Baua, a 38-year-old unmarried dwarf. Anushka Sharma played Afia, a woman battling cerebral palsy, while Katrina Kaif took on the role of Babita Kumari, a superstar whom Baua falls in love with. Despite its unique storyline, the film failed to capture the audience’s interest and fell short of expectations.

Interestingly, despite being considered a flop, Zero managed to earn Rs 178 crore worldwide. While this figure would be impressive for many films, it fell short of the expectations set for an SRK movie.

Other Flop Films of Shah Rukh Khan

Apart from Zero, several other films starring SRK, including Jab Harry Met Sejal, Fan, Dulha Mil Gaya, and King Uncle, also underperformed at the box office.

SRK’s Current Work Front

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan has had a stellar run recently, delivering three back-to-back hits: Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. The actor is now set to dazzle fans with his upcoming film King. Initially planned to be directed by Sujoy Ghosh, reports suggest that Siddharth Anand has taken over as director. The action-thriller has been penned by Ghosh, along with Siddharth Anand, Suresh Nair, and Sagar Pandya.

Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment in collaboration with Marflix, the film is slated to begin production in March 2025. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the cast features Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Abhay Verma in pivotal roles.

Shweta explained that she doesn’t care about the social media buzz. During her earlier years, the actress said that there were journalists who weren’t hesitant to publish negative stories about the actors. Compared to those times, the actress thinks that today’s internet chatter is less impactful.

Addressing her take on the rumours, Tiwari said that in today’s fast-paced world, people are so busy  scrolling through social media that the attention span has become less. So, people don’t focus on one topic for a longer period of time. During the same conversation, Shweta humorously reacted on the rumours of her third marriage. The actress said, “Har saal meri nayi shaadi ho rahi hai, mein already internet pe tin shaadi karke baithi hui hun.” (As per the internet, I had been married thrice and with a new person every year)

Shweta Tiwari and Vishal Aditya Singh first met on the sets of Khatron Ke Khiladi 11 and became good friends. Shweta often refers to Vishal as her son. Meanwhile, the actress was last seen in Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again in the role of an intelligence officer.

The Hindi version of Pushpa 2 was distributed with a budget of Rs 200 crore. The above profit indicates that the film has earned nearly three times its production and distribution cost.

According to a report by Koimoi, the Sukumar’s action film is considered impossible to beat the record of Gadar 2 at 600.66%, The Kerala Story at 694.23%, and Stree 2 at 945.83%.

Pushpa 2 Hindi Box Office day 26 and 27

On the 26th day and the fourth Monday of its release, Pushpa earned Rs 5.5 crore at the box office. Although this was a drop from the previous day earnings that was Rs 12.25 crore. However, it still remains a significant figure considering the new releases and holiday season.

Despite that, the film has broken the record of almost every 2024 blockbuster at the box office. Moreover, it also entered 2025 with a bang. The film made huge bucks on its 27th day at the Indian box office. It earned over Rs 1,171 crore nett in India, continue performing exceptionally well, especially in the Hindi belt. The film which is going to complete a month in theatres, is still has a record-breaking run at the box office.

Also, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, Sunil, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Rao Ramesh and Jagapathi Babu are seen in the supporting cast.
