Delhi blast: Explosives placed to create shockwaves, no metallic residue found, investigators say…

At around 7:30 AM on Sunday morning, a loud blast occurred outside the CRPF school in Prashant Vihar area of Rohini in North-West Delhi.

Delhi Blast: The massive explosion outside the CRPF school which rocked Delhi’s Rohini area on Sunday morning was caused by explosives which were placed in a way to generate a shockwave effect. According to a media report, the explosion was a directional blast, which shattered the windows of nearby buildings and vehicles.

Citing initial investigation, India Today reported that investigators have not any metallic residue at the blast site and most likely, a solid or liquid explosive material was used. Citing sources, the report said that no metal-like substances, ball bearings or electronic devices were found at the site.

According to sources, the explosive ingredients expanded at high velocities in the surrounding air, triggering a shockwave effect which shattered the windows of nearby buildings and vehicles present in the vicinity of the blast area.

As per the report, the explosion was likely aimed to send a message to shop owners in the area.

Delhi school blast – What happened

At around 7:30 AM on Sunday morning, a loud blast occurred outside the CRPF school in Prashant Vihar area of Rohini in North-West Delhi. According to the police, the incident was reported at around 7:50 AM and a bomb squad and a police forensic team was immediately rushed to the near the CRPF school in Rohini Sector 14.

A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) also reached the spot and are probing the cause and nature of the explosion which damaged the wall of the school and some nearby shops. Delhi Police said the area has been cordoned off and they are collecting mobile network data to find out who were present near the site when the explosion happened which is suspected to be a crude bomb.

Forensic experts inspecting the area outside the school, found a suspicious “white powder” from the spot and sent it to the laboratory for examination. They have also dug up a hole near the school’s wall and taken soil samples with them.
