In a significant escalation, Canada has accused Indian Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating plots against Sikh separatists, as reported by the Washington Post on October 29. Canadian officials admitted to leaking intelligence on India to the Post prior to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s public allegations. During a parliamentary meeting, Trudeau’s adviser, Nathalie Drouin, revealed that no Prime Ministerial approval was required for this leak, which was coordinated as part of a broader “communications strategy” alongside Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison. However, Morrison acknowledged to the committee that he provided no evidence to support the claims made to the Washington Post.
