China’s Kamikaze Drone Strategy: When it seems that the border tensions between India and China have come to a conclusion following several bilateral talks, the Dragon appears to have something else in mind that could escalate tensions in New Delhi. China is reportedly planning to acquire not 100 but 1 million suicide drones that can easily target major locations in India. These drones, ordered by the Chinese Communist government, are expected to be delivered to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) by 2026. However, the question of why China is acquiring such a large quantity of suicide drones remains a mystery. Experts believe that Taiwan may face the biggest threat, with India also needing to stay vigilant. Nevertheless, India already has a similar indigenous drone system called ‘Nagastra.’

Major Boost To China’s Military

According to a Chinese drone manufacturer he had secured a government contract to manufacture one million kamikaze drones by 2026. Experts see this as a major strategic move by China, highlighting its foresight in modern warfare.

These suicidal drones are likely to revolutionise battlefield tactics and mark a new era for the PLA.

Why Kamikaze Drones Are Special?

Kamikaze drones, also called loitering munitions, are designed for precision suicide attacks. They hover over enemy areas spot their targets, and detonate themselves upon impact, causing significant damage.

It is worth noting that these drones gained popularity during the Russia-Ukraine war and other Middle Eastern conflicts.

The Secret Behind ‘Kamikaze’ Name

The term ‘kamikaze’ was used by Japanese pilots during World War II. These pilots used to carry out suicide missions. These drones emulate a similar strategy of targeting assets with precise precision. The compact size of these drones and the ability to loiter over enemy zones make them more dangerous and highly effective in modern warfare.

India’s Counter – Nagastra-1

As China’s intentions with the suicide drones are unclear, India has already deployed its indigenous loitering munition system, Nagastra-1. Developed by Solar Industries in Nagpur, Nagastra-1 is a major step toward self-reliance in defence and ammunition systems.

The UAV-based war machine was hovering over targets and struck with GPS-enabled precision in kamikaze mode. It can reach an altitude of up to 4,500 meters. Not only that, Nagastra-1 is radar-resistant and remotely controlled.

All the qualities of Nagastra-1 make it ideal for surgical strikes, where it destroys both the target and it upon impact.
