Bollywood is filled with love stories that didn’t end well. The fact that people’s favourite celebrities were divorcing after long, happy and healthy marriages made it hard for the public to accept it. Entering into a relationship and ending it is not a new thing in the Hindi film industry. Celeb relationships and breakups are always under scrutiny. One such instance occurred in the 1980s when the daughter of an Air Force officer developed feelings for a Muslim star. The celebs in question are none other than Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta. The ‘3 Idiot’ actor, then 21 years old, married 19-year-old Reena Dutta in a secret court ceremony in 1986. He later disclosed that the total cost of the wedding was less than Rs 10 after taking a bus to the marriage registrar’s office.

Did you know Reena first turned down Aamir Khan’s proposal in the early 1980s, which marked the beginning of their love tale? Eventually, the duo began dating, and she even had a brief role in the former’s first movie, ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.’

Reena’s family found it hard to believe after they learned about it later. In fact, her father Mr Dutta became ill after learning of his daughter’s marriage. It was also necessary to admit him to the hospital. Tahir Hussain, the father of Aamir Khan, on the other hand, was in favour of the marriage. He welcomed her as their daughter-in-law.  Reena Dutta had to rebel against her family as a result of this marriage. The reason behind this was that Reena and Aamir Khan followed distinct religions. Aamir Khan was a Muslim, but Reena was a Hindu. Reena’s father, an Air Force officer, hence, disapproved of their relationship.

The couple’s marital bliss was short-lived. After 16 years of marriage, Aamir and Reena parted ways in 2002, a decision the actor later described as ‘traumatic’ for both of them and their families. They have two children: a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira. While Reena Dutta never got married again after divorce . Aamir Khan, on the other hand, married Kiran Rao in 2005.
