Meet Sriram Krishan, chosen by Donald Trump as senior policy advisor on AI

His new position at the White House underlines increasing influence of Indian-Americans on global technology and policy-related posts, which marks another milestone for the community.

Washington: The US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday appointed Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as the Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence (AI). In a statement announcing the appointment, Trump stated, “Sriram Krishnan will serve as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.”

He further added, “Working closely with David Sacks, Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in A.I., and help shape and coordinate A.I. policy across Government, including working with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Sriram started his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure.”

Who is Sriram Krishan?

Sriram Krishnan was born in Chennai, India. He pursued his education from SRM Valliammai Engineering College in Tamil Nadu’s Kanchipuram before moving to the United States. He began his professional journey at Microsoft, where he contributed to the development of Windows Azure. In addition to it, he is a venture capitalist, author, and podcaster. Together with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, he co-hosted The Aarthi and Sriram Show, a popular podcast focused on startup culture.

Later in 2021, Krishnan joined Andreessen Horowitz as a general partner and later took leadership of its London office. After exiting the firm, he collaborated with Elon Musk to restructure Twitter following Musk’s acquisition of the platform. He played a key role in helping former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to reconnect with Elon Musk in discussing plans for the proposed Department of Government Efficiency.
