Amitabh Bachchan's biggest flop of his career, 13 actors rejected this film, actress died tragically in an accident, film is…

Amitabh Bachchan has spent over 55 years in the film industry, starring in dozens of films, some of which became massive hits, others superhits, and some even blockbusters. However, not all of his movies saw success, and today, we’re going to discuss one of the biggest flops of his career—one that made only half of its budget at the box office yet is still remembered fondly by fans.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Biggest Flop Film

Known as the “Shahenshah” of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan began his career in 1969 with the film Saat Hindustani. Over the years, he has acted in more than 130 films, including iconic hits like Sholay, Deewar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila, Bagbaan, and Pink. However, not every film was a success. One of the most significant flops in his career was released 25 years ago.

The movie is none other than Sooryavansham, released in 1999. Despite earning only half of its budget at the box office, the film still managed to carve a special place in viewers’ hearts. The story of Sooryavansham captivated audiences, and Amitabh Bachchan even took on a double role in the film. Interestingly, 13 major actors rejected the film before it landed in Bachchan’s lap.

Directed by E.V.V. Satyanarayana, Sooryavansham featured a stellar cast, including Anupam Kher, Kader Khan, Soundarya, and Rachna Banerjee. The film revolved around the complicated relationship between a father and son. Although it failed to impress at the cinema, the movie found a second life when it was aired on television, where its heartwarming storyline resonated deeply with audiences. Even 25 years later, Sooryavansham continues to be a regular fixture on TV.

Many may not know that actress Soundarya who was popularly known for Sooryavansham died in a plane crash in 2004 while she was travelling from Karimnagar to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

13 Actors Rejected the Film

Bachchan’s portrayal of both the father and son roles was a bold choice, especially since he attempted to play a 20-year-old son at the age of 57. Interestingly, several big stars had turned down the film before Amitabh stepped in, including Govinda, Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Sunil Shetty, and Saif Ali Khan.

Despite its initial failure, Sooryavansham has remained a beloved classic among viewers, especially on TV, proving that sometimes the most unexpected films can still capture the hearts of generations.
