Movies with different and intriguing storylines have often been appreciated by the audience. Directors who bring something new to the table definitely hold the interest of audiences for a longer period. There is also a misconception that if a movie is made on a small budget, its chances of performing well are slim. However, breaking all stereotypes, a movie released 30 years ago came with a fresh idea and, needless to say, became a blockbuster at the box office. It featured some big names, including Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia, Mamta Kulkarni, and many more.

Did the star cast of the film ring a bell? If not, let us tell you that the movie in question is the iconic hit Krantiveer! The movie was a massive success in its time and left audiences spellbound. It won hearts with its stellar cast and gripping storyline. Overnight, the film boosted the popularity of its cast and brought significant profits to its makers.

These Actresses Rejected the Role of the Female Lead

Did you know the makers initially had other actresses in mind for the role of Megha Dixit (played by Dimple Kapadia)? According to a report by IMDb, the role was first offered to other actresses before landing with Kapadia. Similarly, Mamta Kulkarni’s role was initially offered to Kajol, who also turned it down.

Nana Patekar Won a National Award for Best Actor for Krantiveer

Nana Patekar’s powerful performance as Pratap Narayan Tilak earned him widespread acclaim. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in Krantiveer. Additionally, Patekar had previously won two other National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda and Partho Ghosh’s Agni Sakshi.

Distributors Wanted to Back Out Because…

Since Nana Patekar was taking on the solo lead role in a mainstream commercial film for the first time, some distributors were initially hesitant to back the project. However, director Mehul Kumar assured them he would personally cover any losses if Krantiveer failed at the box office. After watching the trial shows, the same distributors enthusiastically decided to associate themselves with the film.

Krantiveer Was a Blockbuster

Made on a modest budget of Rs 3 crore, the movie earned a whopping Rs 20 crore at the box office, marking it as a commercial success.

Krantiveer’s Sequel Was a Flop

The sequel, titled Krantiveer: The Revolution, was released in 2010. However, unlike its predecessor, the sequel failed to make a mark and turned out to be a major flop.
