Coming from Odisha, Kamya Mishra completed her schooling from KIIT International School of the state. During her schooling, she was one of the brightest minds of the school and became the CBSE regional topper in her class 12 board exams with 98.6% marks. After completing her schooling, Kamya graduated in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, one of the most prestigious colleges under Delhi University.

How Kamya Mishra cleared UPSC

After this, Kamya decided to prepare for the Civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and cleared the exam in the first attempt in 2019 with an impressive rank of 172. As a result, she got into the Indian Police Service and after training, Kamya’s first posting was in Himachal cadre.

Kamya was first posted in Bihar as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Patna. Due to her proactive and assertive work style, she soon became known by the name of ‘Lady Singham’ of Bihar. On a personal note, Kamya married Awadhesh Saroj, an IPS officer of Bihar cadre and an alumnus of IIT Bombay in 2021.

Why IPS Kamya Mishra resigned?

Kamya Mishra decided to step down from her role for personal matters on the 6th of August, 2024. Nonetheless, the higher-ups didn’t concur with her resigning; rather they offered her a half-year leave starting in November. It was reported that IPS Kamya Mishra wanted to leave the job and help her father.

Following her attempted resignation, there was a significant shuffle in her job profile, moving her from the Superintendent of Police for Darbhanga Rural to a position at the Bihar Police Headquarters in Patna, where her new role as Superintendent of Police will be revealed in due course.
